I purchased a video cable for my X310 and installed Ubuntu Server 16.04 on it. I then installed Plex and Samba. I am using it as a headless server (for low overhead) and can copy files over the network to a shared folder for Plex to index. It is working very well and streams to my Amazon Fire TV perfectly in HD.

Not sure if anyone would be interested in either a disk image (So they don't need the video cable) or instructions on how to do this.

Just to make sure I'm not confused.
You are offering a disk image of your setup that could be used on other x-310's that don't have the video adapter?
I think that is what your saying. if so.
Thankyou very nice of you... :encore:
I know there are many out there that are looking for something new and just don't want to spend the money for the video adapter for a one time shot.

The x-310 sounds like it would be the perfect system for the job. Awesome work!

Hi there. I have bought a vga cable to but I am not able to enter on my Bios Using a USB keyboard.
I have tried to set the jumper on the mobo to gai n access to it, but i just can´t have a keyboard working (not a mouse).
My intention is to migrate the server to FREENAS or Openmediavault, but sinsce I am not able to change the bios settings... i just can not do it.
If you were so kind of:

Indicate how your jumper is setting up (picture will be much appreciated)
What usb port are you using to connect the keyboard (I know i can sound weird but... brand and model of your keyboard)....

I will try to access on the bios as per your info. In the event I cant do it i will be interested on the image to copy it into the harddisc.

Thanks in advance

I don't have the 310, but all of the HP servers that I have read about, just didn't have a jumper and needed one put on the JP2 pins I believe.
It should have said in the instructions for the vga adapter or you might look in that thread.
Jumper on, access to bios, jumper off no access to bios.

As far as which usb port to use for the keyboard, I would use the back/lower, that seems to be talked about when others have booted to thumbdrives as being active on boot.

Good Luck, let us know how it is going.
