Hi there fellow Homeserver Users,

perhaps somebody here can help me with my (hardware?)problem.

At home I use three WHS1 systems, 2 Scaleos (for two years) and 1 HP X510 (since December 2010).
But only with the HP system I get an error while using an external esata enclosure from Fantec
(the Fantec QB-35us2 here in Europe is the same as the Mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 in the US).

All my Homeservers are in "standby", because the boot up time is much faster.
But every now and then when the HP X510 boots up it takes several minutes till the shares are accessibel.
When I RDP on the server an error message pops up regarding an "exception error"!

I checked the error message with Windbg from Microsoft and the error seems to be the SIL chip:

HP support here in Germany tells me that the error is most likely an incompatibility with the enclosure,
as the error only happens sometimes and not everytime on boot up.
I think the error is a defective esata Port on the HP as I already switched the enclosures and esata cables.
The enclosures work perfectly with the Scalaeo servers. But HP don`t want to exchange my unit!

So my question is if anybody else has the same problem with this hardware combination?

Greetings from Germany,
Markus

That's likely a driver issue with the Silicon Images eSATA chip, you can try updating the driver if you've not done so.

Hi Alex,

thanks for your help!

As I already had the newest driver installed on the Datavault (unfortunately there is no newer driver than the preinstalled) I simply downgraded the driver to one the version before the latest and since the there has been no problem anymore! Perhaps this information will help somebody in the future with the same error.
I will let you all know immediately when this staus changes.

Once again, thank you very much and have a great weekend!
Markus
