I am having problems with media collector on my HP EX495. It shows my files under "Files Pending" but none are being copied. I have called HP support multiple times to no avail. Any gurus out there who can help me??

Thanks.

I am still using an EX470 so no Media Collector yet. But I have seen this discussed around here and highly recommend the SEARCH function...

Thanks. All my media smart server woes were solved with a system restore. I was glad to have my files backed up on a drive.

I used the search extensively before I made my post but none of the threads seemed to offer a solution to my situation. Perhaps I should lower my expectations since others have reported similar problems for well over a year. I hope someone can figure out a solution. I have reset the database, enabled and disabled the collection, rebooted my computer, rebooted the server, and checked for updates many time. It would not seem to be a firewall or antivirus problem because it sometimes collects and copies most of the files before it stops (I have also tried turning them off for a while). In my latest attempt it has 5K in pending (out of what should be a total of over 10K) and nothing copied. The other day it had copied almost all but left 26 in pending.

One other question out of curiosity. Several posts mention setting the interval for collection. There is a setting for that for iTunes but I don't see that for other file types. Was that feature removed in the current version? No mention that I can find in the documentation. I am using WHS with power pack 3, version 3.0.14.33083 8/11/2009.

What version of the HP software are you running?

I have two computers on the network. Both have the problem I have described. Are you suggesting that they both need to be restored? One is a relatively new clean Windows 7 install. The other is an older Vista installation.

I think he is talking about a system recovery (restore) of the server rather than a system restore of the client PC.

Yes, you are right, I did a system recovery of my media smart server EX495. It took a while and a few (3) calls to HP support to set everything straight.

Has anyone found a real solution to this problem. I have many pending files in the HP Media Collector. I have reset the database several times. That did not help. Now I have many duplicate files on the server. My questions are:
1. How do I get rid of the pending files?
2. What is the best way to delete duplicate files on the server?

Any help will be appreciated.

Just got off the phone with HP support. According to HP, both issues (pending files and duplicate files upon Reset Database) are known confirmed bugs with EX9xx. They are working to resolve the issues. They suggested following until patch is released:
1. Disable Media Collector.
2. Delete all media files from the server.
2. Manually copy all media files to the server.

Unfortunately there is no mention of this on HP support site. I strongly suggest calling HP if you are experiencing this problem and keep up the pressure so that they release the patch soon.

@ fjrohlf

It copied over almost all of 5K and left 26 in pending.....give me a break man!!...lol
Try removing the last file the collector touched...it might be hung up on this file
what about metadata?? is it clean?

Like Marton said...copy them over yourself!!!
