Hi
New to home servers. Have an EX490 on a Pavilion a1487c. After install I have two health warning mesages. One (yellow) about installing McAfee I'm ignoring. The other (Red  ) indicated that the Media Collector on my client was not compatible and that I need to remove it and replace with Media Collector from the server. So how do I find it and install it on my PC? Thanks in advance. Mike

Welcome to the forums and the world of WHS.

I do not have an EX490 so I do not have personal experience with this issue. However, I believe that you just need to install an updated version of the WHS collector that on client PC. Use your browser and go to http://hpserver:55000/ (if you named your Ex490 something other than hpserver, then substitute that name for hpserver in the url). That will take you to a screen where you can select download Windows Home Server Connector Setup and follow the directions. (This downloads it directly from your server). Hopefully that takes care of it. If not, let us know.

And you can get rid of that yellow warning easily as well. Using the Shared Folders icon navigate to Software\Add-Ins. You want to move the MSI file for the McAfee dd-In out of that location. I created a sub-folder (Software\Add-Ins\Not_Used) and just moved it there.

(And I still use an EX475 so I don't have any better answer on that part either! But I believe the suggestion given is the appropriate first step.)

Appreciate the quick response from you guys. I was out wrestling a snow blower all day and am just getting back to this . OK. So I reinstalled Connector and I have a yellow status (having ignored the McAfee install yet). Media Collector must have installed properly this time because the server went out and grabbed my photos. But...Console loads extremely slowly. When I click the shortcut on my desktop it tales a minute or so before I get the HP MediaSmart Home Page. When I click to open the WHS console, the password screen comes up. It then takes several minutes to open the console page, but it does not fully open. Sometimes it just stays black. Sometimes I just get the headers. The last time i was able to get it to open, the CPU utilization was at 100%. I guess that why everything is so slow, but what do I do about it? If I click the shared folders shortcut from the desktop, there is no lag at all. It opens shared folders and I can see my music and photos. The file access is fine and music plays fine. It's just console that is painfully slow. Once when trying to open it my computer assumed Connector wasn't installed so I redid that again. Any suggestions?

How long have you had the EX490 set up? The behavior you describe is fairly typical for the first few DAYS as the unit does initial backyups, balances the drives, Twonky sets up, media is collected, etc. Even with Twonky and Media Collection disabled it can take a day or two.

So if this is a first-time for the unit just wait it out.

Thanks John - Yes this is the initial setup. I'll be patient. I manually copied about 75000 mp3's (325GB) since the Media Collector wasn't functional first time through, and like I said, they run fine from the shared folders access. I also have no problem accessing the files went I use remote access. It's only the Console that takes forever to respond, and the CPU utilization is still pegged at 100%. I set it up on Friday.

Thanks again.

What processes are using that CPU (top few only)?

How can I check that? I'm just reporting what the status tab on the Console shows (once I can get it to load).

Log in via RDP. Fire up Tadk Manager. Go to Processes tab. Click on CPU column header to order based on that column. (First time will probablu do ascending, second time descending -- and that is what you probably want.)

Typo... TASK Manager.

RDP = Remote Desktop.

System Idle process. 97-99%
Intermittently popping up at 1-2 percent
TMBMSRV.exe
Task manager
ehrecvr
jqs
System
iexplore
lsass.exe

But isn't this my PC CPU? How do I look at the server CPU?

Should have mentioned this... Is the box at the bottom left checked to show system tasks? If not please check ad repeat report.

So under the SYSTEM user name (aside from System Idle at 98-99%)

TMBMSRV.exe Most frequent by far (Trend Micro Internet security file?)
lsass.exe
svchost.exe (listed four times and one using substantially more memory that the others??)
services.exe
SYSTEM
jqs.exe

On an EX49X the default name would be: http://hpstorage:55000/

Also... on my EX495 that arrived today, it did not clear the "media collector not compatible warning". I'll let it go for a couple of days and see if it sorts itself out. In the meantime, I checked the box to have it not give alerts.
