I have the x510 Data Vault and it's 100% stock, except that I have 4 x 2TB hard drives in it. I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU to the Intel Q6600 as I have a spare one. After that, I'll consider replacing the 2GB of RAM with 4GB of RAM. Thanks for the good info here!

Runs well except when it doesn't ... Requires a lot of baby-sitting....

Newegg had the Mushkin 991762 on sale for $79.99 with free shipping. I went ahead and ordered it.
Are there any tests that you guys would like to see before and after the install.

What program are you using to monitor memory usage?

Well I got the 4 GB stick installed today. It immediately showed up as 3.99 GB.

Right off the bat I noticed that everything seems quicker and just plain more responsive.

The Windows Home Server Console took 8.5 seconds to load before and now it’s 6.5 seconds. It’s not a hugh difference but other things such a opening shared folders are instantaneous.

Actually I’m impressed with the speed increase.

It’s my understanding that the Mushkin is faster ram compared to the stock memory so that may be the reason for the speed increase.

I have some add-ins that I’ve been waiting to install and now I don’t have to worry about slowing the system down as much as I would have with only 2 GB.

Would 2x2gb DDR2 800mhz(5-5-5-12), 1.9v memory work within the WHS EX490?
I know it was posted that a member used 5-5-5-18, but just wondering if the 5-5-5-12 would work and be read by windows as 4gb, as I found a good deal on it.

There is only 1 slot for memory in the MSS line, so no it will not work. If you want to go to 4 gig memory you must use a suitable 4 gig memory stick.

Do you think this 4GB stick will work?
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. ... 51272AB80E

Hard to find 4GB stick mentioned in this thread in Sweden...

*UPDATE* Never mind, i found a site that sell the Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) and ship to Sweden.
I also bought an Intel Q9400S so I hope my X510 will be a monster streaming HD-movies to my 5 devices after the upgrade. :)

I ordered a 4gb stick from newegg... the Mushkin. Should arrive before the end of this week. As long as I believe it is faster... that is all that matters. :) I'll soon find out

Why are you writing in all caps?

If you need help installing the RAM unit in your EX495 you should have a look at this great guide howto open your EX495.
