I am going to get a stick of Signature DDR2 4GB PC2-6400 DIMM and put it in my EX495. I'm not going to upgrade the processor, just the memory.

Since installing WS2012E and loading Serviio, SubSonic, uTorrent, and Netcam Studio, the server is running a little short of memory. I hope this chip will make everything more snappy again. I'll update once done.

so I have moved to the Q9550s and plan on moving towards the ws2012e and was wondering if the Ex495 can handle this: 8GB Approved PC2-5300 FBDIMM Memory http://www.ebay.com/itm/398709-071-8GB- ... 257e52c2e1

Im looking for 1x8gb stick that will work.

That's buffered RAM and won't work.

To my knowledge the board only supports 4GB sticks.

I know that I am extremely late to this game and the preferred Mushkin memory is totally unobtainable as far as I can tell. Has anyone given up on the MSS and have some kicking around that they would like to sell? There was the GSkill option that was discussed somewhat and that one is still available through Newegg. The last I read the fellow that did this was happy with it. Any comments?

The latency doesn't matter. DDR stands for double data rate. In the artical you mentioned it showed it running at 400mhz but its actually double that speed. This link will explain it better.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/24025 ... mhz-800mhz

The lower the latency the slightly faster your ram will be but it will be more expensive. I have also seen stability issues with ram that is rated at lower latency.
