Just got my EX490. I was kinda tired and started setting it up on Windows (Parallels on my Macbook). I remember filling out my new password but I don't recall it ever asking me for a login name. Now every time I try to access it, it asks for login and password.

1) Is there any way to find out the login name?
2) Is there a default login name?
3) Worst case, how can I reset the system to default? I haven't stored anything so I'm not really going to lose anything.

Did you create a username for your user account or did you just set up the server? You should be able to access the server via the Home Server Console with the password you used to setup the server. That should get you into the server so you can setup your account. The easiest way to keep things straight is to create your user account with the same name and password as the account you are using on your Mac.

You can log into the Home Server Console to create yourself a user under the User Accounts tab, and also to have your Mac connect to it without authentication, enable the Guest Account and set the permissions on all the Shared Folders as you would like them to be.

Much thanks to all. That was it. I just needed to create a user. Works now.

Using 11n 5GHz wifi on my Macbook Pro, a quick test shows 6 MB/s up from 4 MB/s using an USB connected drive on my Airport Extreme. Time Capsule is 8 MB/s, so right in the middle. Still slow but I have to try wired.
