Has anyone tried upgrading their EX485 / EX487 with the CD media from a EX490 / EX495?

From what I can see, the hardware is essentially the same between the two generations. I would think we may be able to upgrade the older models pretty easily.

How about simply upgrading the clients? The new Mac client upgrades probably would work out of the box with the older MSS.

If anyone wants to upload their media, I'd be very happy to test and write up the results.

Cheers,
Justin

Good question. Lets take it a step farther. How about upgrading an existing 47X?

This would be fantastic if possible since it would circumvent the need to restore/reset the server using a 32bit computer as well as the fact that a restore/reset would not require such an intensive download of updates.

Inquiring minds want to know :)

Unfortunately, Alex mentioned on email that the EX49x doesn't use Flash to boot. Therefore, it probably isn't possible to restore as I was hoping.

However, I still speculate that the newer Mac client may still work for the older units. I'd be happy to test if I can get a copy somewhere.

Thanks,
Justin

I need to jump in now and ask that no one publicly share links to copyrighted software. I obviously can't control what you do in private messages. Thank you for your understanding.

I'll also point out that the 3.0 software will be available to the EX48x and EX47x owners directly from HP in the near future.

Ya just had to figure it was going to come up sooner or later.
I admit the thought past through my feverish mind the second I read about the ex490/5, and HP seemed to be dragging its feet on the update.

But Dec is coming and I have $25.00.
SSSHHHHHH don't tell the politicians they will tax me $25.00 for improvements.
Make that $50 I live in Kalifornia.

Thanks Arnold. (Our Taxinator)

You could always call HP and tell them you have a 490 and give them your 485 serial number :)

Granted they can probably link serial number to model number and just deny it or drag their feet until the new software comes out.

Why? The EX49x software disks will do you no good on the EX48x series. They use different install methods.

Well for the moment I have one ex485 and one ex490 and I installed Mac software from ex490 and it works great with the ex485 with only that difference that media collector does not work on it (but I don't need it on that Mac - only TM). So, don't be afraid to experiment.
