First let me say that I have been a long time lurker that finally registered.

I have searched and followed the thread on running 2 whs's but actually had more questions.

If you have/had 2 MSS how would you use them? I would like to keep using the ex470 so it doesn't just go to waste collecting dust. At first I thought I would use it as a simple NAS or better yet use it as the backup server running the HP software and then do everything else with the ex495. Are either of those possible while being able to see from files on both from each PC?

I could of course just use one but if theres an advantage to use both then why not. Any other ideas of what to do?

Derek

Hi Derek, thanks for joining! I see so much traffic on the site that I know we have way more readers than our relatively small registered user base. :)

You could use the second server as redundant storage, both for network shares and for BDBB backups since it now includes the ability to backup to network shares. Or, you could give your old server to a family member that may not be as safely backed up as you are with WHS. I've had some good experiences doing this for my in-laws, and the Remote Desktop proxy feature is great for getting me access to their PCs when they need help.
