Hi there

Ive used the HP495 for years now as a NAS. Still going strong.

One Smart flag came up of late with a fairly recently replaced drive noted as 'Geriatric'. I'll figure out the significance of that later, but for the first time I'm puzzled with something: How to tell which drive is which in this unit?
I have four identical brand/model/spec drives in the unit. It tells me physical drive '3' is the one. It has one partition, so that narrows it down to three drives. But looking into server storage, they are listed by 'Bay' location and not physical drive ID. Going into windows server ADMIN and storage management, they are listed by "Disk' number. So nothing common between these three means of identifying the drive.

Doing it the hard way is pulling each of the three out in sequence the re-establish status; there has to be an easier way.

Is there a link between "Physical Drive" . . . . . "Bay" . . . . and "Disk" number?

Thanks

Yes, when all four bays are populated it's...

Bay 1 (Bottom) = Physical Drive/Disk 0
Bay 2 = PD/Disk 1
Bay 3 = PD/Disk 2
Bay 4 (Top) = PD/Disk 3

Many, many thanks for this. A question that surfaced every 5 years or so during my ownership of this unit.
