Post subject:  Access to Drives (OR Move them) on old EX495

Specs: HP MediaSmart Server
SW: 3.3.1.35433 - 2/3/2010 EX1108091933
BIOS: EX49X 1.00 7/23/2009
EX495
(2) ~1.82TB Drives ATA (bay 1 & 2)
Original Use: stream iTunes, family photos/videos, server file storage, PC back-ups

I recently replaced the Power Supply of a long-standing defunct EX495 unit. Yes, it sat for a long time. Once I restored the power supply and got it running with all positive indicator lights, I went to access it and couldn't. All of my PCs that previously accessed files, got backed-up, etc, have since been moved to Win10. I am not able to install connector to access. I have been able to access via Remote Desktop Connection.

Is there a way to get Win10 connectors or to get it to access the server? OR, should I just swap these drives to a newer Server that will take that format?

I'd like to continue doing eveything I did before (perhaps with exception of iTunes, since replaced by Amazon Music). If this thing is toast, with no accessibility, then I'd rather move to something more current and user friendly. I'm entry-level tech saavy, but have no time to get under the covers like most in this forum (and may not be so capable).

Can someone help guide me?

Thanks,
RodneyG

It should work. I just did the exact thing myself.
But in my case I started from scratch.
If you have the connector installed prior, Uninstall it.

Try installing the connector directly from the server
Browse to
http://hpstorage:55000/

Replace hpstorage with whatever you named the server

OK, that helped,THANKS...I made progress. But now I'm getting the following error:
The mapped network drive could not be created because of the following:
You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack.
Your system requires SMB2 or higher. For more info on resolving this issue, see: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=852747

I tried to figure that out and it seems I have an old protocol on the WHS? Is there an upgrade to WHS? I thought not.

Thanks
R

Try Enabling SMB1 in Windows Features.

The WHSv1 SMB subject is covered fairly thoroughly in the following thread:
