I have an EX490 that I got real cheap due to some errors the owner was getting and didn't want to fool with. This is my first server so I started reading this forum to figure out what I needed to do to get it running etc. I have the original disks but I can't run on my computer at the disks are 32 bit and I am running windows 10 64bit. I did purchase a Intel E8500 Core 2 duo CPU processor to upgrade the processor based on what I read in the forums.

I am in need of some advice as to which OS to use to run the server and also once I install the new processor what would I need to do to make it all work? Included in the question is also do I have to install the OS onto the server hardrive as well as the computer? Thanks in advance.

the os is for the server drive only
The bottom drive bay with a lock screw is the drive that has the os
it will format two partitions c:sys at 20 gb and D;/data as what is left over which is shared with the other three drive bays
The manuals are still around if you google for them.

to install software try:
http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/in ... y_Reset%3F

You should have at least one drive in the bottom bay no larger than 2tb.
Plug a Ethernet cable in the server and plug the other end directly into the pc for the install bypassing any routers or switches for the install.
When you place the install cd in your pc will it not run? It is not a boot disk.
The big issue is when it gets to the connector software it uses on your pc.
You usually don't get the 64bit driver till after a few updates

And using the recovery cd as it wants a xp driver for the nic unless you have the individual drivers for your pc
Because it is a boot disk you use to recover your pc.

The disk I have so I can recognize the server that gets loaded on my computer is for 32bit and so I get an error from my computer that it can not read it due to being 32 bit. My question is how can I recognize the server and run it from my computer being I have windows 10 running on computer. I also need to know which program to put on my 490 that will work with windows 10. Thank you.

This should be a white disc named Server Recovery DISC

You may need to boot in safemode with networking.
Then run the disc. It does not like firewalls nor virus protection.

I have it running right now on a win10 Home 64bit pc
