Hey guys, since purchasing my EX490, I've slowly upgraded the drives in it. I currently have four, WD Green drives.

Last night, I investigated the load_cycle_count on each drive and modified the parking time so it's not such a short period as set by WD. As I was digging around, I've noticed that my Disk #1 is at about 79% of space used as opposed to the rest of the drives that are about 48%.

Is there anything that can be done to 'spread out' the data? I'm unsure why one drive would have more data then the others.

You can try the drive balancer.
It was designed when there was a landing zone for data on the original version.
Since then newer versions don't really use it anymore.
If you filled your drives up more than 80% self balance would probably kick in
It is a dos program that fills the drive with blank data to force de to migrate the data files to other drives.
Then it deletes the blank files.
I used it once with success.
It does take a long time to complete and settle down and it won't be exactly 100% even, among all drives.
But it is scary the first time you run it.
I would make sure you have a backup of your data first.

I have used said software once back when I had the ex-470 but now I just let the system do whatever it wants. All drives are in use anyway and really yours are pretty close.
Just my opinion, but I would just let it be.

The green drives scare me as I have heard lots of failures with them, but some swear by them, so I will wish you good luck.

The software is fairly easy to use, it will need to be run on the desktop with a remote desktop connection and yes it will take a while, but know it will thrash the drives for awhile which in theory will take some life off them.

Hey, when I got my EX490 and started to upgrade, the drive's were all budget purchases.
They have worked great for the years I've owned them *knock on wood* and wouldn't hesitate buying them again. I did the following mod and I would do it to any WD Green drive that I would buy, but I modified the sweeper arm timeout as per a few guides.

So far my WD Green Drives have the following load_cycle_count on them:

HDD1 - 307
HDD2 - 27,591
HDD3 - 252,386
HDD4 - 269,930

So I suspect HDD 3/4 may fail eventually but as long as they keep humming away, I'll be happy.

there you go.
drive 1 and drive 2 have low numbers.
as I said if you keep filling up drive 3 and 4. eventually they will balance with drive 1.
Or if you want to rush it then run the balancer.
But I would never go back to green drives.
wd red is the only drive for me and not the pro version.
I use them for any station that runs 24/7.
