I've recently upgraded the CPU in my EX490 and have had no issues. I now want to upgrade the RAM to 4GB.

The stock RAM is a 2GB Samsung (model M378T5663EH3-CF7):
DDR2
240 Pin
PC-6400 bus
Non-ECC
CL6 cas
800Mhz data transfer rate
1.8 v

I tried putting in the following Kingston 4GB RAM module (model KVR800D2N6/4G), but the system won't even post (I have the cable to plug a monitor and PS/2 KBD into the system to see the system post and access the BIOS).

DDR2
240 Pin
PC-6400 bus
Non-ECC
CL6 cas
800Mhz data transfer rate
1.8 v

Did I get a bad stick of RAM? Or do I have the wrong kind?

Thanks!

Ken

It looks like the proper memory. Probably a bad stick or it isn't installed properly. Make sure its all the way in the socket.

I made sure the RAM was fully seated in the socket. I'll have to see if I have another MB I can test it on.

On a side note, the server is actually an HP MediaSmart Server PVT II Sample. I've read some posts stating this is basically an EX490. Is that true? If not I'm wondering if this system (PVT II Sample) can even support 4GB of RAM.

Any thoughts.
