this is a weird thing. For the life of me I cannot get the damn thing to get to bios or boot up. i see a blank screen no video. But when I remove the jumper I am able to boot up and see the screen but not access the bios because of the jumper. What am I doing wrong?. Is there a way to get to the bios and get video display?. seems like adding the jumper is screwing up the whole system from booting.

Well the jumper is needed to be able to access the bios.
Myself I use a ps2 keyboard and it works fine.
If you are using a usb keyboard try a different usb port.
One of the ports in the back is a bootable usb.
Meaning it is powered on boot.
That may be the issue.

It could have been just some crap built up on the pins and you finally rubbed it off and got a good connection.

I am facing a similar issue. I cannot get into bios to correct the time after a bios battery change. I am not using a VOV cable though. Instead I'm using a video only cable I got off of ebay. The machine is a ex490, and I don' see the message about accessing bios using the delete key on startup. I have read in this thread that I might have to ground pin 4 in order to access bios. I'm posting a pic here of my cable hoping someone can chime in and confirm that I do need to ground pin 4, and tell me how I need to modify this cable in order to access bios. Here is the pic, and thanks.

After looking at this, it appears as though I need to connect pins 3 & 4 to each other to enable bios. http://www.xodustech.com/guides/hp-medi ... 5-vga-bios Can anyone confirm this, before I try it?
