Hi there,
I own one EX490 and one EX495. I have the same problem on them.
I bought the vov board to access the storage and, to access the BIOS, I have closed the two pins shown, with a jumper.
The problem I have is that the Storages don't go in recovery mode.
The three front lights remain blue; the right one never goes blinking ble/purple.
Could it depends from the jumper ?

Somebody could help me ?
Thank you in advance.

Try backing out the system drive in the bottom drive bay and then turn the server on. When your server does not see a bootable device it should boot into its recovery mode. Once you see the server enter its recovery mode simply reset the system drive and then run the Server Recovery software on a client which is directly connected to the network port on the server. The EX49x can be a touchy when performing recovery and there is a guide in the site WIKI to help you through the process.

Typically when you first turn the server on it you should see the Health LED Blink Aqua White and Red then press the small Status/Recovery Button with a paper clip or something very small. After that the servers Health LED would blink Voilet.

If you have ever changed the PSU in the past you may be experiencing a change in the LED Behavior. I find its easier to just back out the system drive to place the server into its recovery mode rather then trying to press that Status/Recovery Button.

Setting that BIOS Jumper should have no effect on the getting your server into recovery mode or not. I have DEBUG Boards on every HP MSS Model and its never been a problem for me getting my servers into their recovery modes.

Call me crazy, but I seem to remember some time back that having the jumper on did cause something to not work on my x-510, which would be the same hardware as the 490. I did some searching, but did not find anything, (didn't search to long).

It seems I had to pull the jumper to get a factory reset going, I could be dreaming it.

If pulling the drive and resetting it does not get you into recovery mode, I would try it without the jumper and see.

I power up, wait for (3) cycles red/blue/red/blue/red/blue and then press and release the tiny button in the hole in the front.

It has been to long, I know there was something about that jumper other then bios access or I have lost my mind (likely) :-)

Let us know how it turns out.... Good Luck

Yes jumper JP2 is correct.

I think the jumper is to allow the keyboard to work. If your trying to get into the BIOS and the jumper is off, then constantly hitting DELETE won't do anything.
