Hi all,

I've had my ex490 for around 5 or 6 years now and it's never given me a days trouble however recently it is seaming a bit on the slow side and I'd like to upgrade the internal hardware to a new Haswell i3 CPU with 16Gb of RAM.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so what motherboards will fit inside the ex490?

Thanks in advance,

The motherboard is custom for the MSS, there are no others that will fit.

There are other processors you can install on the motherboard to increase your servers performance. If you search the forums you can see which processors work well with the EX49x, some are fairly expensive but many are inexpensive and run cooler. I have an E5800 running in an EX49x which runs cooler and is much faster then the E5200 that HP used in the EX495 and X510.

You can get a new one for $67 which includes shipping on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-BX80571E5 ... 2ec89daad7

While you can get used ones its always somewhat risky. There are others but you have to be very careful with the specific CPU Series you chose or you can damage the server. This just happens to be the processor I use in an EX49x after Gardian reported having good results running one in his X510.
