I bought a VGA cable to use for upgrading my ex490 to my copy of WHS2011 as the original WSHv1 was getting balky with dropping off the network. Now after installing the cable and jumper for usb boot, the server refuses to power up. Pressing the power button does nothing. I think I've been through most of the posts on site and the PSU spins up if the pins are shorted, so I don't think its the PSU.

Before I trundle it to the recycle bin and repurpose the drives into a QNAP unit does anyone have any ideas?

I've looked for replacemnt 49x's local enuf to Western Canada thru ebay and kijijji, but really nothing that would make it worthwhile once you factor in shipping...

although I've liked the medisasmart for its form factor, its not really worth spending a lot on to fix/repair as I can repurpose the drives into a spar QNAP that I have.

Listen closely, do you hear a click when you push the power button ?

The plastic case switch could be misaligned with the circuit board.

I had thought of that as well and even tried with the case switch removed pressing the mainboad switch directly.. click but no dice !!
also:
disassembled and reassembled carefully
tried booting with bottbable USB in each of the US ports
disassembled and reassembled without the VGA and jumper
shorted the pins for the PSU and it spun up, so it has some power
tried booting with and without hard drives

next step is to check the voltage from the PSU
