I'm trying to upgrade the CPU in the ex490 I recently purchased and bought a E6300 2.8ghz off of eBay. Installed it as per directions and the server will not boot. I get two solid blue lights and one aqua but no hard drive lights and PC won't connect. I put my old CPU back in and everything works fine again.

Do I need to do anything after installing a new CPU such as reinstalling OS or did I just get a bad CPU? I assume the one I bought is compatible, right?

Thanks again!

Edit: Fixed. CPU must have not been not seated properly. Now working.

Good to hear, I was going to say bad cpu, because I have e5800 in most of my servers and I just put a E6800 in a server with win2011 and a ssd.
So I know the cpu's will work, normally.
Enjoy the extra power.. I can tell you the 4 gig ram will not be used if you do it, I have done it on two server and the most ram I have seen it use was 1.5 gig under a load. So I only upgrade two of my 4 servers to 4 gig memory.
Now if you go with one of the newer OS'es then they will use the 4 gig memory.
Goodluck and keep the server vacuumed/blown out for proper air flow, those cpu's can get warm fast.
