I just purchased the mediasonic hfr2-su3s2 and I have an issue with the drives being recognized when the system wakes up from standby. The only way it seems to work is if I have the enclosure always on. It does not work when Powersync (enclosure wakes and sleeps with the computer) on.

Has anyone else seen this issue? Do I need a firmware flash on the enclosure? Or a new esata driver on WHS?

TIA

I have the MediaSonic HF2-SU2S2 eSATA/USB 2.0 units. I am assuming that the sync function on my units work the same as yours. My Ex495 runs 24/7 so I don't hibernate/sleep the server. However, I had some problems with the USB drives being recognized after booting up WHS 2011. I could not use the sync mode which turns off the units when the computer shuts down. I ended up having to use the "sleep" sync mode for the enclosures, which keeps them active on the ports but powers the drives down.

Not sure if you tried that mode. Hope this helps.

I have tried all 3 modes. Power off the enclosure/Sleep/Always on. I have to keep it in th always on mode for the drives to be recognized when the HP ex495 wakes up from sleep

What version of WHS do you run? Also, are the drives in the enclosure connected eSATA or USB or Both?

You've probably already tried these, but was thinking about your advanced power options in control panel, and also, if you have the debug cable, power options in bios. Changing something there might help in the server wake up.

Wish I could be of more help. As I don't sleep my server, haven't experienced your issues. But I do know a lot of users here do, and hopefully someone will chime in. Also, be sure do search these forums, if you haven't already. I remember an add-in called Lights out, which was popular, and was intended for this purpose. Although I never used it, there was much discussion on sleep/hibernation.

sound like you need to enable
hotplug or hotswap in bios for esata
not sure if the mediasmart have that in the bios like in new boards
