Comp1962 - Thanks for the info.

Artah - Did you try to see if it works with the old processor?

I never upgraded the processor so I don't have another one to try.

Sorry - read that wrong...

Ya, that PSU "sounds" right...

As for the processor, perhaps one off of Ebay?

GrantB,

I have seen those PSU's and there are a mix of companies who sell PSU's they claim are direct replacement PSU's because they will fit into the MSS and can be rewired to work and there are companies who sell the same or similar PSU that is rewired to but what they both have in common the rest of the cables have not been remove and you can not properly fit the PSU in with all that added baggage so the extra cables would need to be terminated.

Now with Overtek their PSU's are configured much like the stock PSU in the MSS with all the extra cables removed and properly terminated and yes they tend to be more expensive but not that much more and are shipped quickly and arrive quickly too. Something about the Queens mail seems to make the USPS here in the States deliver faster but I can not speak for other countries.

Artah,

Very sorry to hear about your not being able to resolve your EX495 issue. Not really sure what the change in the BIOS could of done to cause an additional issue with turning the server on. Generally its the PSU which causes issues with the MSS regardless of the model. Of all the MSS's I have acquired, worked on and gotten to work again only one kicked me to the curb and that was with a failure of the BIOS not posting.

As for your streaming issue with WHS2011 I would assume your trying to stream from the Media Function built into WHS2011 and it has limited capabilities. I would recommend you install Remote Potato set it and then get the Android and iPhone apps which will connect to Remote Potato and play just about any media file type you have. Just read the documentation and you will be fine. I only use an Android phone and tablet and use the Remote Media Center App along with Rock Player Lite and it plays fine with much better video quality results do vary based on the memory and process you are using as the transcoding is done by the server.

As for streaming your media using WHS2011

Comp1962 & Artah,

Just an FYI for both of you and anyone else who might be reading this and is in the same boat. I could not find this PSU on Ebay so I sent Overtek a message. This is the response:

We're just out of stock and due to a component shortage and delay with our next batch the replenisments will be late and not in till the start of July.

That's a bummer. I have a spare PSU which I will be using today or tomorrow to work an EX485 I have coming in and if that resolves the problem with the unit then I am going to have to pick up a Flex PSU and rewire it and terminate the extra wires which of course voids the warranty but those extra wires need to come off because there is no room in an MSS to accommodate them.

Hopefully John over at Overtek will get some PSU's available sooner.

The only new things that I introduced to my MSS is the video board and the setting on the processor cores. Course I took it apart a few times. I wish there was a way for me to find out if the motherboard is good for sure then I would buy everything that would fix my server including a 300+ watt PSU and fastest processor. What processor do you guys recommend anyway if I get brave enough to do it.

I believe the most coveted CPU is the Q9505S not to be confused with the Q9505. If you perform a Site Search for Q9505S you will find those who have installed it and read what they have to say about it. However the Q9505S is not going to be an easy processor to find. If you also have time on your hands you can also perform a Site Search for EX49x, EX490, EX495 and the X510 to see what issues and solutions may exist to helping you resolve your problem. I find myself doing this quite often when I am seeking information I am in need of and always remember Google is your friend.

Slight typo on the cpu.
q9550s not 9505s.
Also I use a 9450s.Which is just as hard to find.
Again they are hard to come by even at the high price they ask for.

The Q9505S is a valid processor that's known to work and there is a Q9550S which may be the more preferred processor the damn numbers all look the same when you look at them.

I don't see any at all at amazon.
You need the "s" suffix on the cpu.
That means it is a low tdp.
65 watt instead of like 95watt.
or it will overheat unless you modify the case and add fans.
