I have been looking for a spare ex495 to upgrade to the Q9550s but have not found the deal that I would like.

it makes me wonder if the upgrade is even worth the time.

What type of deal were you looking to get on an ex490/5? I have a ex490 that I was going to toss up on Ebay Sunday, no drives (trays are there) and in perfect working order.

I've opened it up, inspected the power supply capacitors (all in great shape!) and cleaned it. Feel free to fire me a PM, if not to Ebay it goes.
