Trying to upgrade the memory in my stock EX495 MediaSmart from 2GB to 4GB. I already ordered one Kingston module that was supposed to work (DDR3), but would not fit into the slot. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. So, can someone please tell me: What is the best 4G RAM Memory Module to use? Where do I get it?

I am running this in my EX495:

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 991762
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820226089

But it seems it discontinued. Unless you can find any used.
Sorry but that's all I can recommend. It's been running great for over 2 years.

So, here are my results so far...
1) The Mushkin 991762 would be my obvious choice, except that it is nowhere to be found.
2) Second choice is the Patriot PSD24G8002. I found it at Amazon and NewEgg for around 69.99.
3) Another alternative is G.SKILL Model F2-6400CL6S-4GBMQ for 89.99. I don't know how beneficial it is, but it actually has a heat shield. Does anyone know if it will fit and work in an EX495?

Any further comments or suggestions?

Anyone know a good place to get the KVM adapter while I'm at it?
Figured it would make installing and managing WHS2011 much simpler.

Thanks for all the help!

You can get what you call a KVM connector which is known as a DEBUG Board from the following link => http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/05 ... available/

Installing one of these babies will make lots of things simpler for you and if your server is located near a client then you can also get a KVM Switch to share a single Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor with 2 or more units depending on how many connections can be made to the KVM Switch. I have a couple Linksys KVM Switches which allow me to connect upto 4 units to each switch.

Heat shield? 99% certain to not fit. Do not get a module with a heat shield - unless you want to void your memory's warranty and cut it off. Not that I know anything about that :-$

Looks fine but you need to know your server is 32 bit and so it will only be able to utilize 3.2 GB of the 4 GB which is still better that 2. Also because you can only install 1 stick it will run only at have its speed.
