I bought a ex490 when HP announced they were discontinuing them. My ex470 was and is working just fine (2 gig ram upgrade only) but is very slow at times and I intend to start ripping and streaming sometime and thought I would need it so I bought it and it has sit quietly in the box. I toyed with the idea of selling it and building a system but have decided it is better to upgrade the cpu and ram and migrate to the ex490.

I bought a sealed retail box e8400 on ebay for $102. Today I received a sealed retail box e5800. Seller has excellent feedback and will send me the e8400 or give me $50 back if I would rather keep it.

So, long way around to ask the question about the e5800 verses the e8400. The passmark cpu chart shows a minuscule 3% difference in speed between them. Does anyone have additional or more realistic speed comparisons on the e5800?

The e5800 runs at 3.2GHz verses 3.0 GHz for the e8400, both are 45nm, which one will run cooler?

Any info or ideas will be appreciated

If you're just going to be streaming movies (and not doing a lot of heavy-duty encoding, etc.) then the e5800 will be fine.
