I have an EX490 running WHS v1 and one of my drives went bad. I put everything aside for a few years and I didn't use the EX490. I was doing some cleaning up and I found this drive and not realizing it I inadvertently formatted the drive. Right now, I am able to see a DE folder but no subfolders worth of data. There is data on this drive. I understand I should have not formatted the drive and left it alone.

If I put the drive back into the server and not add it to the drive pool do I have any chance to recover the data off this drive? I would like the data to be intact, if possible. I would like to copy the data off of this drive.

when viewing a drive connected to a pc.
You need to enable view hidden files and folders in windows explorer.
If you can see the de folder then possibly you really did not format it.

I can see this folder structure.

DE folder
---Shares
---- Folder with weird numbers and letters
-----Folder with other weird numbers and letters

---Folder
----James
-----Desktop.ini

That is all I see on this drive. Again, I know there is data on this drive which I may have to use a recovery software to retrieve the data.

Yes, you need a data recovery tool. But don't download data recovery software on the same drive from where you want to recover files. Also, i would suggest you to first try your luck with Free data recovery software you can download Stellar free data recovery tool, if that tool shows you preview of your lost files then go with the paid version.
