I was just reading about the new HP Gen 10 server.
Looks pretty awesome and the prices start at $399 and I think they will have 2 versions, one with a better cpu that will be a little more.
AMD cpu and will go up to 32 gig ram.
Sounds like you can get it with ClearOS Software for the OS, but I bet I could install my server 2012E on it.

https://www.hpe.com/us/en/product-catalog/servers/proliant-servers/pip.hpe-proliant-microserver-gen10.1009955118.html

I think I see a Xmas present coming from HP this year :-)
If anybody gets one, give us the info please.
All I know so far is the CPU may be soldered on the board :-( it does not have Ilow but does have 2 DP and 1 vga ports for video. I believe it has 6 sata headers but no M.2 port :-( It also may have a slot for a thin dvd-rw.
It does have two giga nics which would make it great for a domain controller.

Christmas eh......hmmmm........Does your wife know about Christmas in July? You might have to go outside and cut down a tree bring it in so your new HPE Gen 10 Server can be properly placed under the tree cuz its Christmas in July.......Not to be confused with what Wal-Mart does to kick off the season cuz Christmas in July is a read honest to goodness thing observed by many and who knows maybe you too now.

I keep checking for availability and am not seeing anything, but I have decided that xmas will most likely come early this year :-)
I think for the price it would be fun to play with, that OS, I would like to see more, and if I don't like it, win2012E would be a fun thing to try.
Can hardly wait. haven't had a new system in years....

I have seen a CPU at 1.6 ghz and a cpu at 3.4ghz so am unsure at this time. I don't want a (X3216) 1.6 ghz cpu, the (X3421) 3.4 ghz I'm all in.
Take care

Saw this today, (7-21-2017) has me wondering if this is the cheaper version:
http://www.provantage.com/hpe-870208-001~7HPE926P.htm?source=googleps&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI35fopIOb1QIVgrbACh09yQ30EAQYBCABEgKwCfD_BwE
Because the specs on this one read:
CPU
Processor Type Opteron
Processor Model X3216
Processor Core Dual-core (2 Core)
Processor Speed 1.60 GHz

If so, I don't want this one. I would want the 3.4 ghz cpu that I have heard about, so will have to wait and see for now.

Found this today, looks to be 2-3 versions so far.
https://www.amd.com/en/opteron

I see 3 on this Netherlands web page. So not sure what is for sale and what is not so far.
https://www.hpe.com/nl/en/product-catalog/servers/proliant-servers/pip.models.hpe-proliant-microserver-gen10.1009955118.html

I would certainly want the higher end model, but no pricing yet??
Getting closer. \:D/

Oh well, maybe Gen 11 will be worth buying.
Seeing to many minuses on Gen 10, even the performance / more pricier one. Really seems like they went backwards, the Gen8 is looking pretty compared to the Gen 10. #-o
To bad.

I am still sold on a netgear readynas for a replacement.

There are many software vendors that offer automated backups for up to win10.
One is easeus.
They offer incremental backups, full backups as well as creating recovery disks.

Even though readynas has a jbod and raid option they do have what is called a xraid which is close to jbod. that allows mixed drive sizes.
But it probably does not have the ability to read the files direcly on the drives.
They also have dual gigabit Ethernet ports that can be paired for faster read/write speeds.

The hard part is what model or how any drive bays.
