For harddrives im going with WD or hitachi i have good luck with both.

DVD Drive cheap and basic

I got a bigger processor because i was told you can put a video card in to use the server like a DVR so im sure it would require a little more giddy up and go

what am i missing or what should i change..
i debated on a server to hold 20 or so harddrives like a few on this board but i just dont think ill ever need it.

This setup should run Vail too i think. so whenever it comes out I should be ready to upgrade

Those parts look fine.
The one piece you may have issue with is using the server as a playback device.
Not due to power, but noise.
You can easily use any number of methods to record the video, but when it comes to playback, it's surprising how a little noise can become very annoying.

I tried this myself with mixed results, so now my server does some DVR duty but no playback.

I think you will find the case will do everything you want but I wasn't happy with the lack of hot swap drives and wound up going with Supermicro rack mounts with all drives hot swap in trays. One has 8 3.5 and 8 2.5 drive bays the other has 15 3.5 drive bays which I have found to be very convienent when drives fail and for testing. I also found that true server boards rather than retail boards are virtually indestructable. I picked up used cases and used motherboards on ebay at less than retail parts and they have been bullet proof for 2 years now. I did modify and change fans to get them operating as quite and cool as any retail machines. They are both 3U units, so they are easily handled. Just a thought if you like tinkering.

I was referring to the Buzz of fans and the clatter of hard drives.
If you run a loud surround sound system all the time maybe not so bad.
But for me it ruined the creepy parts where folks are sneaking around.

Most of us have the server away from the viewing area.
This is where I think the little MSS boxes outshine most DIY's they are very quiet.
until you fill them up with a bunch of drives.
