I have to tell you I love that case and its flexibility. Please continue to share your progress and good luck with your search for the drivers you require. |

Took a break with this whilst I sourced some more parts (noctua fans, some more 2TB hard dirves and some other parts for my main machine which will now be a 16GB i2600k ... just waiting for Z68 chipset now) whilst on a business trip to the US ... ... and Microsoft didn't really help whilst they messed around with Windows Home Server for so long but things are back on track and I will be posting some more pics soon. Issues I have now are the airflow and how to get a positive pressure flow within the machine ... EDIT MAY 2011 - ADDED MORE PICS ABOVE - Hopefully should have it completed by July ... |

Well, now you have done it, My wife is going to be soooo mad when I buy that case That is perfect, future proof! When you think of how much money one spends on upgrading over the years, it would be worth it to buy once and be done. The only other thing would be to have plenty of 2TB drives for down the road. Awesome! Thanks. |

aaronwt wrote: How loud is it? That looks like a Sweet build. It was loud that is why I have been replacing all of the fans and as I work is close proximity to the server and it will be 24/7 then the quieter and cooler the better. Each drive bay had its own 80mm and with 120mm fans it was loud so i decided to change them all out for Noctua's So overall I will have: 4 * 120mm Noctua NF-S12B FLX Exhaust fans - 2 on the back and 2 on the top which should be able to take out 100 m3/h each Optional 2 * 80mm Exhaust if I can't get the positive air flow with the 4 120mm 7* 80mm Noctua NF-R8 Intake fans - 6 on the drivebays and 1 on the internal drive cage which should give 53 m3/h each If they are too loud the have LNA and UNLA adaptors (Low Noise / Ultra Low Noise) so I can see what affect that has on sound / temp. |

What do you think about cutting in 2 or 4 200mm fans on top. I have 1 200mm on top of my antec 900 pc case, it moves air but is not loud. What the heck, get a small portable AC unit and bolt it to it. Now that would be cool. These ICY DOCKS would work?, I can get them from Newwegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817994028 I don't need the locks, no kiddos running around. |

I think that case has 120mm holes on the top already? for the top holes you dont need high rpm as natural convection would be in your favor. It would be almost passive in a way. a slower 120 will be almost silent and very effective. I would recommend a grill of some sort for top mounted fans so you dont accidentally drop a screw into the top of the server... As far as those Icydocks, think they had mixed reviews because they did not cool very well and you have to solder to swap out a fan. I like the supermicro 5 in 3's.. I then get a fan controller for each one and turn the fan down to about 1/3 to 1/2 speed depending on the drive type and temps. they get very quiet. you do have to trim some spare plastic from the connector to work. I could totally see myself with one of these in my basement with a MBD-X9SCM-F-O a xeon, as much ram as i can afford and 3 SASLP-MV8's and another 2+ port NIC Install ESXi on it. then put WHSv1 and WHS2011 (maybe even unRAID) all on the same box. That is 1 expensive server, but very nice.. almost Ferrari like... |
