After an old re-purposed Dell, a Media Smart 475, and a Media Smart 495, I have decided to go the home build route for my next server. The long term goal for Deep Thought is to host "Vail".

Case - Norco 4220
Motherboard - Intel S3420GPLX
Processor - Intel X3450
Memory - 8G Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2/4GI
Power Supply - Corsair CMPSU-950TX
SATA cards - (3) - Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Optical Drive - Sony AD-7670S-01
System Drive - 2 Seagate ST9500420AS

Parts started arriving last week, and I expect everything to be on hand by the end of the week including Cavediver's 120mm fan board (thanks).

I updated the firmware on the Mother Board last night, and for some reason it keeps insisting the answer is "42".

Nice, how much storage do you expect to have in use, at least initially?

I have 14TB in drives ready to go in, (5 - TB and 4 1TB). Once I decommission the ex475, that will free up another 7 2-TB drives.

All buttoned up and in the rack, Running the Vail Beta, 500GB system drive (excluded from storage) and
5-2tb Seagates and 4-1TB WD FALS drives for the data pool.

The "Old Guard", The 475 (1-500GB & 7-2TB drives), has the backup copy of the computer back ups via BDBB and is mirroring the shares on the 495 (3-1.5TB & 6-2TB drives).

The cart is an iStarUSA WOS-990 and the APC is the Smart-UPS RM 1500.

I'm really liking the cart. Seems they can be had online for about $217. My 4220 is sitting in a 2 post rack balanced on shelf, so I'm trying to find something smaller.

The cart is awesome... I really have nothing to add other than I LOVE the name... Clearly you should continue adding HDs until you're up to 42 gigs of storage... :D
