I plan to rip my movies from the server, hence the DVD drive. Also, the cost is low, so I can always remove and throw it way later in exchange for an external drive.

...another thought, once your server is sitting somewhere in it's final resting place, would it just be easier to rip movies from a dvd on your client laptop or pc and save it to the server over the network? Just another point against bothering with a dvd drive. Just depends on which process is easier for you.

Started my purchase and build process. I locally purchased the case, PSU, DVD drive, & additional case fan. I have the SATA cables, WHS software, system drive, and initial storage on order. Next month I will purchase the MBO, CPU, CPU Fan & Memory. Here are couple of pictures so far:

Will post more once I get the more interesting components.

I like it, showing some moderation and restraint.
Some of us have none and end up building WAY TOO BIG!
but thats cool it's all fun.

I'm looking foward to seeing it power up.

Purchased the MoBo, CPU, RAM & CPU fan yesterday. The assembly is almost complete. Need to get a jumper for my WD20EARS then I can move forward with the WHS install. Started up the system and verified the hardware at the BIOS level. So far, so good.

Thanks for asking. Yes, she is up and running. I have the two laptops successfully backing up to the server but having issues with a desktop. I will address that in another thread if I can not resolve it. I installed the MyMovies add-in and it is working beautifully. Also installed Lights-out, but have yet to fully configure and test it. Also looking at WHS Disk Management & Recorded TV Manager.

Just received another 4TB of drive yesterday which I plan to install this weekend. When I open her up this weekend, I will try to take some pictures to post.
