Build is progressing along very slowly, I am still missing a few more parts to complete the build. Went with Asus PT6 v2 mobo, Core i7 920, 4GB ram & 16 bays now have 2T WD & Hitachi drives & a Mushkin 128GB SSD for the OS. I am still trying to Locate an Adaptec 5805Z at a good price.

The HP MSS came bundled with Twonky. I am assuming the OEM WHS does not have it bundled therein. So what descent app are folks using in their builds?

Once I am done with my current build, I will probably look into this for my next build :-)

I don't know if it's just my perseption.
Perhaps once you get your system up and running you can confirm for me.
The performance actually got better with time.
I think maybe DE is improving things or something dunno.
When I first built the beast I thought wow even on a I&-940 the console SUX! (Very Slow)
I have not done anything to attempt to correct that but for the past two weeks the console has been very fast and snappy.
Even on my client systems it literally pops open immediately when I click the button.
And no tab to tab lag at all, maybe a second or two to pull up tab data like disk manager or my movies, but nothing remotely close to how bad it was on the old box.
Not that I'm complaining, and The Beast will go in and out of sleep mode literally in seconds.
I'm not using an SSD, so I would think you might have even quicker results.

I'm just trying to nail down what made it faster to share with others.

oooh.... thumper-esque!

Bummer that it's a 'complete' solution... I'm still holding out hope that someone like supermicro will someday release a DIY thumper chassis.

Most of the parts finally arrived. I decided to gut out my current PC and transplant the parts into the Norco. It turns out my existing CPU fan, Scythe MUGEN-2 fan that is too big. Unfortunately I had also ordered a Noctua NH-U12P & this is just as big as the Scythe.

I've not been keeping up with CPU cooling technology lately but that's the biggest HSF I've ever seen!

So I have ended up just using the stock Core i7 fan. It seems Newegg did not pack the breakout cables I had ordered
