My wife is starting to hate that I'm visiting this forum and others. My cavediver fan board should arrive today and I keep getting a case of the "I want ...". I showed her your build thus far and asked if I can order a second 4220 and got shut down before I could get all the words out of mouth.

Ya know I had that same conversation with myself in the mirror.
But sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do, so I over rode myself and did it anyway.
Of course I made myself sleep of the sofa that night but by the time I started the build all was right in the world. :)

P.S You could also try telling her their like shoes they come in pairs.

Well two days of 100% cpu load and The Beast is truely a Beast.
Rock stable and still very usable at 100% load.

Wow. Must be a beast for sure. Do you have all your drives loaded in yet ? Any new pictures of the Beast ? I guess the combo you have with your MB and processor is the heart of the beast for sure. I am switching out the guts of my Norco in a month or so. I was looking at the I7 but think i will go the Cavediver route on the MB and use a Gigabyte. I love that MB you have. Crazy amount of slots and the SAS output is a nice touch with the Norcos.

Cant wait to see pictures of the front of The Beast once you get it mounted

Great Job again on this crazy build !

The rack will be here Sat, Fan kits Thur so Hopefully I can finish the wireing harness either Fri-Sat.
So expect new Pics Sat afternoon or Sun morning.

I have not transfered any real data to it yet waiting to see the burnin results.
I will be using robocopy to move the data over one drive at a time.
so it will likely take days to complete.

I am actually ahead of schedule, I expect to be 100% complete by next weekend Mar/6-7.

Outstanding issues
Fan Controllers & wireing
Replacement 80mm fans (looking at silenx ipx 54-14 1700rpm 32cfm 14dba) X 4 if I run them at ~ 1krpm I should be able to keep all four under 20db.
Main Backplane wireing harness.

Got the cavediver boards in and hooked up the fan without fan controllers so 3000rpm.
funny they arent any louder than the delta case fans at the rear by themselves.
So very promising once I get the controllers installed.
But look at my temps!

Ambient was 70, 21c = 69.8 if you give it a +- it was at least break even.
I've never seen that before you always have a positive ambient+a few deg.
I think I have good cooling.
Granted this is at near idle, but it has been on 100% of the time for four plus days.
So not a just powered on temp. For a I7 cpu thats KICK BUTTOX! With all cores at 100% for three days the highest recorded temp was 59c = 138F again not bad for an I7.
No I am not doing any overclocking nor do I plan to.

I think these fans move some air through the case.

I am currently trying to train the beast to go into standby until called upon or waken up.
I will be trying out "Lights out to see if I can bring it's power hungry ways under control.
Having a little trouble with the video card coming out of sleep.

Their the Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm 133cfm fans X 6 (798 CFM).
They hit 45dba at that speed I hope the fan controllers will reduce that a lot.
But even so they are vastly quieter than the delta's.
I will be getting four SilenX ipx 54-14 33cfm X4 fans (132cfm tot)for the back of the case.
I'm shooting for approx 20dba total.
I may have to design a baffle to go on the back of the rack.

Still working on the whole sleep/standby thing The Lights out add-in looks very cool and even stops DE from waking up the server, Backups still do but you can disable that as well you would then need to re-shedule your backups for a time you know your clients will be awake.
However it has an answer for that as well.
It can wake up your clients for the backup then out them back in sleep mode.
Very cool.

BTW the Beast makes an excellent room heater, keeps my office nice an toasty.

 I bet so. My fan board came in this week as well. Think I'll order the 1600 RPM fans.

I used the 1600RPM fans and they are great. Move tons of air and the 1600RPM fans with Cavedivers fan board, it is night and day compared to the Delta Screamers.

Chasrobin the build is just sick. I have to ask though. I know anytime i have had to move my Norco, I do not look forward to it since it is a odd shape and pretty heavy. How much Spinach do you eat to move The Beast ? Do you happen to have a fork lift in your garage ? Once again nice nice work. Would love to see more pictures of the inside. Still good luck with the control cards you are using ? Did you get yourself a 5000 series ATI yet ? Killer Killer card. I use the 5750 and could not be more happy. Especially with the patch of TMT with bitstreaming.

Try as I might I can't get my xbox games to work on it!!!! :)
On another note I've had a bit of trouble with S3 sleep mode, goes down sure enough but doesn't wake up well.
But S1 works steller, not as good as S3 but I will take whatever I can get to save a little.
The lights out add-in works so well it's CREEPY, a little confusing to setup but once it's there you would swear your MSS was possesed.
You wake up your pc to work and hear your server in the next room roar to life.
It's even possible to wake it up over the internet.
Even my Movies wake it up and keep it alive till it's bed time.
I think once I finish the fan control piece the BEAST will be just about perfect for me.
