since i cant get the mediasmart server in europe or i have to pay huge shipment cost :?
also i did't like the hardware specces that the homeserver has 2.0ghz/2gb ram

well it took my some time to get all the right parts to make it enegery efficent so i wont get a bill of 200 euro from my home server energy consumption:D

so i decided to get atleast more resources then the 485/487 have/has

i decided to get 4gb ram of buffalo
AMD LE-1640 2.60ghz 45 wat processor
Samsung HD502IJ 500gb (going to expand it later)
ASUS Vintage V2-M2A690G chassis
Chipset:AMD 690G
u can find more about the case/motherboard here:http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/extension/MotherboardDetail.aspx?id=277

well i think it dont uses watt/power iam gonna measure it next week so if you want write what you think the power-consumtion is gonna be the one that wins will get a small prize dunno what;) suggestion are welcome;)

and of course Image

Edit:
For users thats want to buy the same chassis/motherboard u need to buy an pci network adaptor if you want get 1gb internet u its a known problems on the mobo so just buy a cheap 15 euro pci card;) and ur rdy to go also iam maybe gonna buy a dual core 2.7ghz that has the same power consumption that i currently have

Thanks for sharing!!! I am starting to get my wishlist together for building a DIY server, great to see what other people are doing.

I am actually looking into building one myself also.
I personally like the Shuttle KPC form factor, would be nice to see once that supports a dual core ATOM 330, which I think would be the ideal processor for a home server. Energy efficient but fast enough to perform the majority of required tasks.

I am hoping to get a case that I can get at least 8 HDDs in. I was looking at one of the coolermaster cases (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811119137) or Antect (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... tec%201200) and I could add a backplane module (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817332011) into the 5.25 bays to get 5 more HDD bays aside from the internal bays. There is alos the Chenbro SR109 which is a more serious case (http://usa.chenbro.com/corporatesite/pr ... hp?sku=109)

Be careful what case you get, once you get used to tray hot swap drives, it is very difficult to deal with screw in or even tool less drive bays. I had a really nice case with 10 drive bays but that's going by the wayside with a Supermicro storage server with many hot swap bays.

Very true, That is why I was looking at those backplane modules for the additional space as I should be able to use those for hot swap. About a year ago I couldn't imagine needing anything more then the MSS...

I'm really really happy with the Antec Mini 300 case.

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku= ... ture=ANTEC

It's small, has 6 drive bays, add another 3 drive bays in the 5 1/4 space.

It runs really cool with the 2 additional front mount hd fans I installed.

I can't recommend it enough, for a smaller chassis that's cheap and runs cool.

This is basically what I want to use for my build when I can afford it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811112164

NINE 5.25" bays!

Use 3 of these to get 12 Hot-Swappable bays: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817121913

Pricey, yes but it's a lot of HDD space in a relatively small sized case.

Or try:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6816215001 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6816201030 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817994028 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817995001

for 15 hot-swappable drive bays.

There's also a similar case with 12 5.25" bays for potentially 20 3.5" hot swap bays. Imagine 40TB in a regular computer case.

The thing is you don't have to buy the backplanes until you need them. They are cheaper than buying the external port multiplier cases anyway.

If you don’t mind rackmount case, I sugest to use this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811219031 .
3U with 16 hot-swap drive bays for only 309.00 + shipping.
