I have an EX475 that is primarily used to store my media library, it hasn't worked correctly in years. I can't seem to restore computers with it anymore as during the restore process it can never be located on the network when attempting to restore a pc and now with the release of Windows 8 it doesn't seem to be able to back up my windows 8 pc's. In the past I have also always had some difficulties getting my Linux Boxes to connect to it seamlessly to share music so I'm thinking it's time for a rework and looking for some suggestions. Mainly I would just like to use it as network storage that all pc platforms could easily connect to and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I would like to configure it with raid so it could mirror the files to other drives. The only possibilities I know of would be Free NAS and possibly Ubuntu Server!

I've had some success using Unraid with my EX495. It's free for three drives. I like the reliability -- somewhat better than drive extender because a single parity drive is used. Highly recommended.

I think your issue with what little info we have is the network drive the restore cd is loading or NOT loading. You can always find the vista 32bit driver and load that driver when the restore cd prompts for drivers.
