Wow is right.

Just as an aside on Supermicro support, I'd really like to know what kind of promises you guys are making to get such a turnaround on the new drivers for the SASLP-MV8 cards.

I sent them another email 24 hours ago, this time only specifically asking for the new 4.0 drivers for the card, and I've yet to receive a response. I also sent a separate email inquiring about the RAID status of one of my cards, to which I received RMA instructions a few hours later. I just don't understand why they are ignoring my requests for the drivers, but are quickly responding to you guys. Oh well, at least I found them on that forum and don't have to depend on Supermicro Support.

Here is what I wrote, with my name and email address at the bottom.

Hello,

In reference to the thread below on your support site, please direct me on how to locate these drivers (4.0.0.1200) I can only locate 3.1.0.22 on your FTP site.

I just explained to them that I receintly acquired 3 of the AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards and that I was made aware that there were newer drivers for those cards and that I would greatly appreciate it if I could get them. Within 20 mins I believe I had the drivers attached to an email.

Um, thanks for the responses, but my post was intended to be sarcasm. I'm just not having any luck with them - was trying to point out that some people are getting great response, but I'm not - and who knows who else is in my boat.

My email to them was pretty similar to yours - I have 3 cards, I've had stability issues and heard/read that the newest 4.0 drivers might solve that problem. Please email me the drivers or provide a link from which I can download them.

Still NADA from them. . .just boggles the mind. I wonder if my email went into a spam folder?

Its quite possible and if you have another email account you could try that. I think that anyone in a customer service position should bend over backwards to provide good customer support. Speaking of which I believer I sent the request for the drivers to their Tech Support and not their typical customer support but both are the same to me. Maybe you could send them a message telling them there and I quote "Your Support is so-so" translate that to "您的支持是马马虎虎" the last part so-so in Chinese has a special meaning which we use at work almost daily which basically means maybe good maybe bad but has a humorous effect to it.

If and when you play with the 3TB drives please share your experiences with them. I would be very interested in hearing what you find out.

So to give you an update on this, I have 7 Hitachi 3tb drives in my WHS2011 server buildup now. 2 are their 7200rpm variety (due to a sale), while the rest are the 5400rpm variety. 2 additional 5400rpm drives are on their way thanks to a Newegg sale this past week.

So far so good. I initialize with GPT and format them on my Win7 pc, then plug them into the WHS box, assign a drive letter and we're off and running. 3 of the 7 are currently in the Stablebit drivepool (all will be at some point, I just haven't added the last 4 to the pool yet). Speed has been great (transfers that is, though I haven't measured it, it is very zippy), and playback has been rock solid on my media players. Overall, I'm pretty happy, especially when Newegg or Fry's has the 5400rpm for $109!

Is there anything else specifically you wanted to know?

Its great to see your having a positive experience and I hope that continues in future. If the transfer speed is good with the current M3 then it will only get better in M4 when they will concentrate on performance. I was running Stablebit on my test server and liked it very much. I have decided to wait for the M4 release to reinstall Stablebit as my former test server now has a full license but its just sitting there doing some media streaming. My primary WHS2011 is Highlander and I am being overly cautious with it at this point but I am enjoying the performance as its my main media streaming server.

I would be interested in the transfer speed especially since your also running Stablebit which I have a lot of respect for. So next time you do a large transfer it would be great if you can post the transfer rates.

Just a quick reply - I transferred quite a bit over the weekend. From my old WHS v1 server (an HP EX470), speeds were pretty dismal - anywhere from 20 to 40Mbps or so. I suspect that had to be a combination of the low horsepower in the 470 combined with the less than stellar NIC card in that machine. BUT, when I was transferring bd rips from my Win7 pc with gigabit NIC (about .5tb worth), it was running consistently at 90-95Mbps, with some peaks at 105. This was WITH Stablebit's Drivepool (latest M3 version) running on the WHS 2011 box. Very zippy.
