Post subject:  Troubleshooting hi-def (blu ray) streaming buffer underruns

Hey all,
I have an LX195 connected to a gigabit network with a Dune Base 3 media player. Hi-def movies stutter and are unwatchable and the Dune media player reports buffer underruns. My best, and obvious guess is that the LX195 is not transferring the file to the player fast enough (I read the definition of buffer underruns) :)

Anyway, I was wondering what troubleshooting steps I should perform to verify, and possible remediate this problem. I have 4 - 2.5" 500GB hard drives plugged in and I imagine they are bonded with the internal hard drive for a total capacity of 2.4TB. To play movies I just map my Dune player to a SMB share (videos on the LX195) and I can see all the movies I put there.

Is there any way to measure the rate of the data being sent out of the LX195 or is there any software that can monitor the health of the server while I am streaming? Tonight I am going to remote into it and bring up task manager and watch the performance and then start playing a movie and we'll see how that goes. I was just wondering if there is something I'm missing here. If the server doesn't look like it's being taxed what would my next steps be? Maybe the router? Grasping at straws here...

I plan on buying a QNAP, Synology, or Thecus NAS soon but wanted to see if there is something I can do to fix what i have now. Thanks in advance for any help..

Does the dune have a USB connection? If it does can you move the movie to a device large enough to hold it and play it from the USB Connected device and see if you get the same results.

As I recall the Dune is a high end unit so I do not suspect it to be the issue. So lets rule out the video file. There is a remote chance your server may have been busy with another task that may have interfeared with the stream. Some of the server tasks can be temporarily disabled to help improve on issues such as the one your describing and there was a post about doing just this in the forums recently. I will look for it and if I find it I will come back and let you know where it is so you can review it.

Here is the link you can review regarding disabling demigrator.exe which will cause you issue when streaming from your server if its active.
