The hard drive led on my LX195 is blinking red. What does this mean? The server appears to be operating normally. The manual addresses only the health light light turning red and makes no mention of error conditions pertaining to the hard drive light.

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have any warning messages from the WHS console? What does WHS report regarding the health of the drive?

Thanks for the reply. The only message I have is: Network is healthy. Also, the console, under server storage, has a status of healthy for the storage hard drive. Free sapce is 77%.

Have you tried a reboot of the server?

Alex is right. Try rebooting the server. My EX-470 is giving me bogus messages that the primary drive is failing. When it does, I just re-boot the server. It gets rid of the message for a week or so.

Thanks to all who replied. Yes, rebooting the server clears the blinking red light. Since the server has the ability to have the hard drive light blink red, I assume that it has some significance. However, in reviewing all of the documentation that I have been able to locate, I am unable to find out what it means. It would be nice if there was a complete list of server error conditions and the correspoding patterns the lights display when the error occurs. The only information I have been able to find pertains to the Health Indicator Light.

I have the HP LX195. My hard drive light started blinking red also. It was shortly after I physically reconfigured the external hard drives connected to my server. During the process I changed an old hard drive to the "Not Added" status (it would not be used for server storage nor as a backup drive). It was still powered on though and connected to a LX195 server USB hard drive port. I powered down the server and disconnected the "Not Added" drive form the LX195 server. Re-started the server and presto, the blinking red hard drive light is now solid aqua-blue. I had tried just shuting down and re-starting the server before disconnecting the "Not Added" drive and the hard drive light was still blinking red. Just my two cents as to how I got rid of the blinking red hard drive light.
