I have a question about an HP LX195 Hard Drive problem. I have an WD Caviar Blue HD. This drive apparently came with the LX195. This drive is 640gb. Recently, I have been getting a Large CRC Error message. I am not sure how to fix this problem IF it can be fixed. My intentions are to fix the CRC problem on the WD drive without having to spend $100 on buying a new drive.

Basically, what happens it is this, the LX195 will display these indicators.

Power= Aqua

HD= No light.

Health= Solid Red

Usually I pull the drive out and run basic Windows Error checking tool. After running these tests, I will put the drive back into the server. Turn on the server and I will get these indicators.

Power= Aqua

HD= Aqua

Health= Aqua

The server will act "normal" for about a day or two. Then I am back to the problem again as described above. When I say "normal", I am saying the server does respond and I am able to access the shared folders. When the server is acting "normal", the health status on a client computer will always remain YELLOW due to the HD status. I don't have any other HD's to test the server.

Is this a common problem with Western Digital drives? Is it an HD problem or LX195 problem?

I would be more interested in the actual drive connection in the LX195 because its my understanding its a very small cable and somewhat delicate from what I have read which others have posted. To be honest I have never worked on an LX195 but the one issue I do recall reading about was that cable connection being an issue with the LX195 and this would account for your CRC Errors and drive issues.

Now all hard drives will fail at some point in their life. I have used the WD Blue Drives in the past and found them to be reliable. I do like the Black Drives and last year I purchased several of them and had to RMA one of them. As for the CRC issues just keep an eye on them that they do not increase but it may be a connectivity issue not a drive issue.
