So I got the HP 3.0 upgrade today, and couldn't figure out why nothing seemed to happen after (successfully) running the server recovery disk.

Turns out it re-formatted and installed the new software an an EXTERNAL drive that was connected via eSata. The drive was used only for server backup stuff, so it turned out not being a huge problem. And I have no idea what might have happened if that drive had been part of the internal D: storage array.

Anyway, I'm going to disconnect it before running the install again. I think it somehow got confused because that drive showed up as an Internal drive, and must have somehow looked like the system drive to the update software.

Just thought people should know!

Had the drive ever been used as a WHS System Drive in the past? If so, had it been re-partitioned and re-formatted since?

Nope, the drive was never used for anything but server backup.
