Hello MSS.net

I recently performed a server recovery after the OS drive went bad. I went through the troubleshooting from Comp1962's posts and found the OS drive not able to run the chkdsk on my PC.

I ran chkdsk on the other 3 1.5tb drives in the MSS and was good. I installed a 1tb for the os drive and did the server recovery. The process went fine and it didn't show any indication that it would format the other drives. I installed the client software back on the PC, and found the whole box was wiped clean. I also have an external esata enclosure that is still intact (I think, I pulled a drive and put it in the hot swap on my pc and it showed data taking up space but when you open the drive its empty).

PLEASE if someone can help I would really appreciate it. I usually lurk and absorb all the info I can so I don't clutter up the forums before I resorted to posting. I had duplication on FWIW.

Again, PLEASE (the wife is going to kill me). Also if all is screwed up, is it possible to recover files from a formated drive?

Thanks in advance

1. You can undelete/unformat data. I had success with "RecoverNT" and "Easy Recovery Pro"

2. Can you attach one of the data drives to a normal PC? (using a USB/SATA connector or directly)
Make sure that you will see "hidden files" in explorer. You should see a hidden "DE" folder and inside it a "shares" folder with some of your files.

I'll try that later tonight. I didn't know that the files were hidden. :mss:

Server Recovery doesn't erase the storage drives, is it possible you did a Factory Reset? Did you have the storage drives connected to your server when you did the Server Recovery?

This guide will show you how to recover your data from the storage drives: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-U ... 573697777f
