What's this mobo header for?

So I made my own cable, and I get video no problem, but I can't seem to get the keyboard to work...

I have my PS/2 port hooked up as so...

Pin 1 PS/2 (DATA) is going to Pin #6
Pin 3 PS/2 (GROUND) is going to Pin #4
Pin 5 PS/2 (Clock) is going to Pin #8

Thoughts?


Also USB keyboard won't work...

Yes, I work in an IT shop, so I have access to tons of stuff. I've tried a number of keyboards.

You are missing pin 4.

Pin 1 PS/2 (DATA) is going to Pin #6
Pin 3 PS/2 (GROUND) is going to Pin #4
Pin 4 PS/2 (VCC) is going to Pin#2
Pin 5 PS/2 (Clock) is going to Pin #8

For those who don't want to deal with the hassle of building a cable, they can also be purchased here. Building is more fun, buying is cheaper (depending on how much your time is worth of course).

Does it work when WHS is booted up? If it does, you have to check that you put a debug jumper.
My USB keyboard works when debug jumper is on only.

Well I connected the VCC and now I get all three lights flashing once right when it turns on, then shortly after its gotten past POST. But still no Keyboard.... any more thoughts?

Yes, I have JP2 or "J" jumper on... and I can use a USB keyboard at that point only in the bottom port of the three. And it won't do anything when I hit DEL but if I hit F4 it says it's Entering Setup, but it just goes into the Windows on the flash partition. Thoughts?

Hey everyone, I just got my H340 a few days ago. I really want to build this cable but I am a little confused about a few things on here.

These are the pinouts that i could figure out so far, can someone please correct me so I don't build this thing the wrong way.

Some of the pins on the right side of the drawing I dont understand. I am assuming that its for the mouse.

Pins 1 & 2 are connected together on the MB.
Pins 4,10,16,20 are connected together.
Pins 3 & 17 are connected together.
Pins 25 & 26 go to the VGA +5, but where is that??? On the vga pinouts I don't see any +5

Also, the DDC1, SOUTH1, SIN1, I don't have a clue what they are.

Can someone fill in the blanks for me please.

These are grounds for each correspondent color signal (Red - RedGround, Green - GreenGround, Blue - BlueGround). Most of the time all those grounds are already connected together and can be ignored if you wish to simplify it.

If you don't see it, don't connect it. Basically, you just need to connect Red, Green, Blue, H Sync, V Sync, DDC and ground.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Just got my x510 (Wishing I had gone with an actual MediaSmart model) over the weekend and spent probably far too many hours this morning wiring things up for this.

Knowing that it all works I guess I might order the correct brackets for things and try to clean stuff up a little - I had thought about soldering all the connectors to the bottom of CN9 so that I could more easily use all the open space on the bottom sides of the power supply for cabling.

While it may be a small thing, the data vaults don't get the same TZO name options as the others. :?

It also seems some of the plugins don't work - which is either because the slight menu differences or maybe they just weren't made for the ex495 models.

The biggy, since it is the "business" device, if there are ever any downloads for the server I won't be able to get the from the website. It just gives the message "Downloads for this product are not available through this website. Please contact your local HP representative for information on the specific update methods available for this product."

(1) TZO I was not aware of (and I do not think it was mentioned Alex's review).

(2) The Add-Ins situation should not be different for an EX49x unit -- but there may be Add-Ins that were specific to older units, such as Fan Control for the EX47x units.

(3) I was also not aware of any differences in downloading updates (and, again, I do not think it was mentioned Alex's review).

Hopefully others can confirm (1) and (3) and maybe Alex will then update the review.

I've seen the TZO names are different, yes. I'm not aware of any limitations in the support of Add-Ins or Downloads, in fact the most recent patch for the EX49x servers was also designed for the DataVault and installed on both systems. For the time being and IMHO near-to-mid-term future I expect HP won't be diverging the products from a software standpoint until a new version of WHS appears.

I haven't tried many so far, but I know the addin to control the lights does nothing on the data vault. I have only removed the twonky and added the latest version (sure helped get the cpu usage back down) as well as the squeezebox addin. Don't want to get too far off topic on the thread though =]

Might as well put up some shots - pleased enough for spare parts. Took off the serial port for now since I won't need it at the moment.
