This is an old thread, so i wondering if HP has changed the BIOS. I followed the instructions but health LED's didn't stop blinking as described in step 4. It kept blinking blue for 30 seconds or so and then stayed solid.

Anyone know if they did? I bought my server about 3 weeks ago.

These instructions pertain to the EX47x servers, the EX48x servers already have this set to "last state".

That's great news, I didn't know that. Thanks!

Thanks if worked, (the second time I tried the proceedure). The first time was pilot-error on my part. I used the Arrow key instead of the Page Up key.

Works great! Now I won't have to worry when I'm gone from home.

Thanks again,

Chuck

Also EX490 is already set for last powered state.

I know this is an old thread, but I hope it's ok to still jump in and ask ....

I have the MS 495. I want to change the bios from "previous state" to "always on" so that after my UPS has done a low battery shut down of the server, the server will turn back on when the power returns. Can you advise the keystrokes to make *that* change?

Thanks!

Not sure what your UPS' capabilities are but, try telling the UPS to wake the server via USB if possible...

I was really, really hoping this would work. But unfortunately it still blinks red and blue. For a couple of years my MSS would simply turn on after an interruption or brown-outs. Only during extended periods without power would it require me to do it. But the last time was caused by a power company tech looking for the cause of the brown-outs (tankless water heater). His test seemed to give my MSS some PTSD. I tried both of your instructions - the second I hoped would just reset everything but it did not.

I really don't want to throw this out even though I bought a new one (not a MSS). Aside from buying that VGA device sold here or making my own VGA connector what else can I do to save this MSS? Could I copy the contents of a recovery disc -or similar- onto a flash drive and reboot the MSS with it?

With the vga/mouse adapter you would be able to see the Bios and what it has to offer.
This is an old thread and the X-310 and x_510 are the newer versions of the servers so I would not attempt to do anything from this blind.
The $60-$80 bucks is well worth the choice to put whatever os you want on.
Good Luck
