I have an EX470 with the OS drive in slot 1. I'd like to add a second 1TB hard drive. It's originally formatted NTFS, it's already 75% full. I don't have a blank drive to introduce to the server and to copy the data on to it, and I can't afford to wipe out my existing data if it's not safe to added to the pool.

Please:
a. can you inform me if there might be a possibility in losing my existing data from this drive by inserting it in slot 2, enabling me to still access my data?
b. what if I later on decide to remove it from the server to use it as an external HD elsewhere, would that be an issue?

Your insights is well appreciated.

Hi,

The data on your drive will be wiped when you add the disk to the storage pool.

The best solution unfortunately is, moving the data to another disk, and after adding current disk to the storage pool, moving it back. When you remove a disk, all the data on that disk will stay (as the disks are NTFS partitioned).
