Im trying to install vail on my HP EX470 but can not get the install to work. I did everything using the thumb drive, I even connected a usb DVD-rom drive using the Microsoft HD DVD drive. But the Vail will not install. But I did get Windows Vista installed on the HP EX470 using my Vista disk. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

Initially I ran a test run with Vail on the EX470 and installed it without issue. However I did not use the method on how to install it written in the guide posted on this site as I had a video connection on the EX470 along with an external DVD Drive to load Vail.

If you would like to purchase a Debug Cable to add video to your EX470 click on the link below:

If you have not yet read the Guide on how to install Vail on an MediaSmart Server click on the link below:

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/04 ... rt-server/

I do recommend the Debug Cable as it is very useful in troubleshooting MSS Problems but not with just the EX47x but with all MSS units. I currently own 2 of them and am contemplating purchasing a 3rd Debug Cable. They work great!

Is the boot device connected to the bottom rear USB Port? Also make certain the media your using is bootable otherwise the server will boot from the SMI Device on the motherboard.

If you have adjusted the BIOS Settings you can set those to the defaults or you can change he boot order to reflect the devices you wish to boot from. If later you desire to reinstall WHS that came with your EX470 just remember to reset the BIOS to its default settings.

When your server first boots up press the DEL key to enter setup.

Once in setup select ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES.

Look for FIRST BOOT DEVICE and set that according to your needs.

After that select SAVE & EXIT SETUP

Remember if one day you chose to reinstall the version of WHS that came with your EX470 to reset the BIOS to its default settings.

Still no luck. Its weird I make a iso disk before. If I place the disk in my desktop pc it does not load like a normal CD would.

I was unable to boot my EX47x with an Xbox HD DVD drive. All other systems boot off it fine.

I dont know whats going on. The thumb drive worked but while installing my hard drive was not format right so I had to stop. Fix the hard drive and everything. But now it will not read or see the thumb drive. I just dont know what to do. The part of the hard drive with Windows Home Server 2003 that is on my hard drive do I have to delete that?

The hard drive needs to be blank for the unattended install.

Perhaps sharing screenshots of where it's failing would help us help you.
