I have many questions to ask about configuring my HP MediaSmart Server.

Let's start with this one: How do I tell which server I have? I believe it is a HP EX475. But I don't see anything close to those figures on the server.

Thank you,

Ron

Look on the bottom of the server for number starting with GG and then look that up an you will know if its an EX470, EX475 or other MSS Model.

The EX470 and EX475 are exactly the same the only difference was with the compliment of hard drives HP Provided with the server. The EX47x MSS has a Silver Top, has black locking tabs on the trays and only a Windows Logo on the front door. All the other similar MSS units had a processor badge on the door, a black top and red locking tabs on the trays.

Thing is these identifiers are only good if nothing was changed to the unit. All the parts are interchangeable so if someone damaged their enclosure they could simply by another empty enclosure and just change out the internals and be back in business. The other way to know if its an EX47x is to take apart the server and look at the motherboard. The EX47x was the only AMD based MSS Server HP built and all the others were INTEL and so they will have a big INTEL IC on the motherboard where the EX47x will have a SIL IC on the motherboard.
