I'd like to try the Neo X2 6850e in my EX470......

Well I have upgrade one of my EX470s today with the ADJ6850IAA5DO AMD Athlon Neo X2 6850e and it works fine. Thanks ymboc for BIOS intructions that worked no problems. First bootup windows automatically detected new hardware and installed the "Computer - ACPI Multiprocessor PC" driver then requested reboot. Rebooted to show dual threads in TaskManager as in pic.

My VCCP is currently sitting at 0.992V. For the stock Sempron 64 3400+ Vcore MIN=1.2V NORM=1.25V MAX=1.3V but I cannot find these Vcore specs for the Neo X2 6850e anywhere.

OK, I am ready to buy my dual core CPU replacement. I already did the BIOS hack and I also read that several different CPUs seems to work with the hack, including the ADO4000IAA5DD and the ADJ6850IAA5DO Neo 6850e.

I am currently living in Europe. Could someone who successfully did their upgrade please tell me where did they get it? Preferably I would like to buy them online.

I believe there is some Hong-Kong site that sells them?

Thanks for the help :-)

Regards,
P.

I brought my two from eBay trader logic8421. Although the picture looks bad with CPU sitting in his hand the two I got were in original AMD packaging unopened. I am exremely happy with the 22W CPU. Right now (on same shelf) my original HP is sitting with CPU temp 49C and the one I moded is sitting at 39C.

Thank you... I don't think this user is selling such CPU any longer, though.

Does anyone else knows of a shop that is not eBay selling such CPU?

Thanks in advance,
P.

What's wring with ebay? Ebay is your best bet for finding obscure processors!

May I ask where are you ordering your CPU from?

http://www.starmicroinc.net/

$65.00

I thought it was on the high side. Just missed one on ebay for half the price.

Just registered & wanted to post to say thanks for this thread. I've had my WHS for about 3 years now. Love it. But it's showing it's age. I was going to do the LE-1640 upgrade a couple years ago, but held off.

BIOS upgrade complete, just scored a great deal on the X2 3800+ 35W (ADD3800IAA5CU) on eBay, waiting for it to arrive and I'll upgrade the RAM as well.

I keep thinking about a new WHS build, but I love the form factor of the MSS, that and HDD prices are through the roof right now. Hopefully this will hold off those desires for a little while longer :)

Thats Great, and welcome.
I just received my ADD4200 chip and it was shiped with no cpu plastic case and a few pins are bent and looks like one pin is broken off.

From now on when i buy cpu's from ebay i will request that the cpu is shiped the the plastic case.
The guy did give me a full refund on the cpu and to trash the bad cpu, now i need to start looking for a new/old ADD cpu.

All the best,

John

Same happened with the first 3800 EE SFF I found on ebay...

I tried straightening out the pins - one ended up breaking off completely.

Not Fun.

I managed to buy my CPU on eBay after all!

Got a ADJ6850IAA5DO from an eBay user (power user / shop named gigi985) in Hong Kong. I paid with Paypal (don't need to have a PayPal account to pay someone with PayPal).

Now, off to Maplin to buy some decent thermal paste, and also some components to build my VGA came :D

UPDATE: CPU is running at 25 Celsius for the past two days. Really impressed with the performance gain. I might consider installing Hyper-V on this server to run WHS 2011 and something else along with it :D :D :D :D
