I have a problem removing a hard drive and the error I get is unknown error. I have backed up all my data and want to restore. My server is running the powerpack 2 I am unable to get powerpack 3 from windows update. My question is are there any alt os revisions I should check into installing since I am doing a fresh build? I also was wondering if the data will be destroyed when I reinstall the OS? I have backed it up as a precaution so would it be better to reformat all the drives and upload the data to the fresh install instead of trying to leave the data on the disks?

You can choose to install the newer HP 3.0 software, that has a bunch of Windows Updates and the newer HP 3.0 software, however HP is no longer selling it. You could do a search in this forum for link. A server restore will NOT delete your shares, but you could loose your PC backup unless you use the BDBB addin 1st.

Its not available for download. HP was selling the upgrade for a very brief period of time then discontinued selling it. Keep your eyes open on eBay as the 3.0 upgrade discs do show up there. Just keep in mind that the Upgrade Disks are specific to the server meaning EX47x is different then EX48x and so make certain if you do come accross the disks that they were written for you server as the hardward between the two model series is very different.
