I’ve had an EX470 since it was new, and it’s been running continuously since then, up to a year ago when I moved. For the 3 or 4 years prior to that, the BIOS battery has been dead, meaning when it lost power it would come up extremely slow / laggy with throttled network speed, and a broken backup service. I’d have to RDP in, fix the clock, repair the backup database, and eventually all would be fine.
Well, finally I disassembled the thing, installed a new battery, cleaned all the dust out, repasted the CPU (although the old paste was in shockingly good shape)… and it appears that WHS lives on! I’ve only one system that can use it for backup, but it has quite a bit of old data on it from systems that no longer exist. More than slightly concerned that all four hard drives are still original to when I installed them - kinda impressed with that 500gb Seagate
