I bought our EX485 specifically so that my wife could save her work files on to the server from her MBP.

We copied everything from her backup external drive to the MSS and she can open the files from the Mac with no problems. However, she cannot save anything to the server. Her WHS account has admin privileges. Every time she tries to copy anything to the server there are a series of messages saying that she does not have permission to read the files. The "Connect as..." bar says she is connected as Guest, however, she's logged in on her Mac as the administrator too. Clicking the "Connect as..." button brings her to a window with her hard drive and network icons.

Please help! Thanks.

Did you create a user account for her on the server? Ideally it should be the same account name as on the client computer (the Mac in this case) with the same password. And did you create it withing the WHS console? WHS uses some "interesting" file permission settings to control who can access what.

I did. User names and passwords match exactly. The funny thing is the Mac accesses the server to open files no problem.

If your Mac automatically mounts the network share and authenticates as "guest" I believe that is your problem. I vaguely recall having to clear some type of cache on the Mac to force it to prompt for a user name. A reboot may also help.

Once that cache is cleared choosing "connect as" should bring up a login box allowing you to enter a username and password which would be the same as her account on the server.

Just having her login name and password on your mac the same as the one on the server is NOT enough. You must authenticate on the server with a login other than GUEST.

Hope that helps.

You might selected "Login as guest" when you mount WHS share first time. You should open Keychain and remove corresponding record. Also you can enter in "Connect As" dialog the URL containing user name, eg. smb://<user_name>@<mss_server>/Music
