To everybody having "MAC address" issue. The HP posted new update that fixes it - the reason was (as indicated) in changed server MAC addresses, which are checked by the client. I think that it worth trying to update for all ex48x owners - probably some other fixes are also present.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been having this problem for a while, but have been too busy to investigate the issue further, or to try calling HP.

Seemed to work great for me. Now I can get into the backup tab and setup my time machine image. I didn't have time to do it yet but plan on finally backing up my Macs tonight =)

Granted I can keep my MediaSmart server up (my other problem that I'm working with HP support on).
